Rafael González was created in the 1930’s. It was in this brand that the 61⁄2 inch (165mm) by 42 gauge cigar was bornthis cigar has the factory name of Cervantes. It was also called a Lonsdale, named after Lord Lonsdale, who was a famous English sporting Earl and cigar aficionado of the same period. Following this, many other cigar brands opted to make a similarly sized cigar with the same name. Each box of cigars from this brand, holds a curios inscription written in English in its lid label. It reads to the effect that the cigars should be smoked within one month of the date of shipment from Havanaor otherwise they should be carefully matured for about one year. 


Rafael González cigars contain a light tasting blend of filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone. All sizes are made by the Tripa largaTotalmente a Mano – long filler, totally hand made technique bar one, which is Tripa Corta, short fillerTotalmente a Mano, totally hand made. The short filler size also incorporates tobacco leaves from the Semi Vuelta zone.
