Punch is one of the oldest and most well know Cuban cigar brands. Don Manuel López of Juan Valle & Co initially founded the brand in the mid 19th Century. The founders had a keen eye to the booming British and European cigar market, thus using a humorous well know comical puppet namely Mr. Punch, which was well knowacross the European continent. It also shared the name of a magazine established in the UK. The cigar branding matching the magazines, which at the time was very much in vogue and likely helped establish the brand in the UK. A contented Mr Punch with a cigar in hand, this famous puppet clown personifies the brand as strongly now as in the past. He is still featured on the punch cigar brands logo boxes to this day. The character personifies the era, surrounded by 19th Century images of cigar making that remain virtually unchanged over a century and a half later. In 1931 Punch became linked to the Hoyo de Monterrey brand, the two brands had been made at the same factory since that timeToday they are made at the factory La Corona.

Punch’s unique medium flavour is created with a blend of filler and binder tobaccos from Vuelta Abajo and is available in a wide variety of sizes. All sizes are completely handmade (totalmente a mano) from long-filler tobacco (Tripa Larga) sourced from the Vuelta Abajo region of Cuba.

There is also a non-Cuban brand with the same name, produced in Honduras for the US market.
